ABSTRACT   x Discipline  and  control  are  essential  management  principles  that  could  be  used  as  tools  to enhance  staff  compliance  to  work  standard,  rules  and  regulations  in  order  to  achieve organizational  goals.  Recent  studies  on  the  causes  of  inefficiency,  laxity  and  eye-service among  Nigerian  employees  in  the  public  organizations  have  been  due  to  lack  of  discipline and  control.  Hence,  the  study  investigated  the  impact  of  staff  discipline  and  control  in  an organization  with  particular  reference  to  Enugu  State  University  of  Science  and  Technology (ESUT).  The  survey  design  methods  were  adopted  in  the  study.  Both  the  primary  and secondary  data  would  serve  as  sources  of  information.  Stratified  random  sampling  procedures were  used  to  select  the  departments  that  were  included  from  each  of  the  faculties  in  Enugu State  University  of  Science  and  Technology.  Tables,  simple  percentages  and  five  point  Likert scale  were  used  in  the  analysis.  The  chi-square  at  the  appropriate  level  of  confidence  (0.05) was  used  for  the  research  hypotheses.  The  sample  size  was  drawn  from  both  the  academic and  non-academic  staff  of  the  University.  The  findings  from  the  study,  Staff  discipline  to large  extent  impacted  on  employees’  performance.  It  brought  about  workers  punctuality  to offices,  and  made  workers  to  stay  in  their  offices  during  working  hours,  promoted  service delivery  and  created  successful  goals  achievement  in  ESUT  through  the  disciplinary committees  set  by  the  University.  We  also  found  out  that  despite,  political  interference hindered  some  employees’  performance  that  affected  some  of  the  goals  of  the  institution,  and promoted  corruption,  favouritism  and  staff  misconduct.  We  also  found  out      that  Staff  control enhanced  discipline  in  an  organization  (ESUT)  and  helped  in  goals  achievement.  We  found out  that  Staff  control  and  discipline  done  more  good  than  harm  in  an  organization  including ESUT  Staff  and  its  environment.  And  we  recommend  that  organization  to  excel,  they  must write  out  laws;  offences  and  disciplinary  measures  guide  the  organizational  activities  to  attain their  goal.
